SDRplay today announced the launch of the RSPdx-R2 which is an enhanced version of the RSPdx.

Quote "Global supply chain support issues have prompted some redesign of our existing products to ensure continued supply for our UK manufacturing partners. With each new member of the RSP family, we try to include improvements. This has given us the opportunity to offer performance enhancements at the same time as assuring supply.

The RSPdx-R2 includes improvements to the RSPdx for MF frequencies and below. Specifically, there is better noise performance below 1MHz and further improvements to dynamic range below 2MHz both in tuner mode and HDR mode." More information on: SDRplay announces the RSPdx-R2 - SDRplay

Not to be a major nitpicker, but all of the manufacturers of SDRs these days (aside from the typical cheap RTL dongles) should be considering USB 3.x or Ethernet as the method of connection to the PC. Hopefully any next version of the popular mid-range SDRs (RSP, Airspy) will change up that. I get it, you all still have customers using silly old Windows XP. But those people need to retire their POS systems and use better computers anyway.

Yes, that would be a sensible architectural change for a higher bandwidth SDR. As it is USB2 is fine (USB3 is compatible) for our current spec.

Agree 100% in 2024 there is NO reason for any device still using USB-2 let alone USB-B! USB-C is the standard and can provide more power and more bandwidth.

Bandwidth is not the problem in some cases USB speed is not the limiting factor.

  • USB 1.0/Low-Speed: 1.5 Megabits per second (Mbps)
  • USB 1.1/Full-Speed: 12 Mbps
  • USB 2.0/Hi-Speed: 480 Mbps
  • USB 3.0/SuperSpeed: 5 Gbps
  • USB 3.1/SuperSpeed: 10 Gbps
  • USB 3.2/SuperSpeed+: 20 Gbps

I know. But if the device itself (SDR and software) can not use higher speeds, then higher speed USB does not help at all. The device electronics is then the limiting factor.
