I got sdrtrunk up and running with a new P25 Phase 2 system. Works great. I didn't know it wouldn't decode a Motorola trunk system, so now I'm wondering if there's a second program I can run and assign some sdr dongles to it, separate from the ones being used in sdrtrunk.

Thoughts?

If not I can stick with a hard scanner and RadioFeed like I've used in the past.

Much thanks!

Unitrunker works pretty well with Motorola 3600 systems, and will decode analog and digital (P25 CAI) transmissions.

Do you know if it will play well with sdrtrunk running side by side, and stick to its own tuners? I guess I can ask over at Unitrunker.

I am running a nooelec and an airspy mini in sdrtrunk and a nooelec in UT without issue.
What dongles do you have?

Unitrunker will only use the dongle(s) that have active VFOs assigned to them. Older version of SDRTrunk, however, will lock up every dongle attached to the PC if started first. This was resolved in more recent releases by allowing you to disable dongles you don't want the software using. But yeah, they run just fine side by side. You will need virtual audio cables to pipe the audio out from Unitrunker to other software, if that's your intention.

2 Nooelec v4 (2021) and adding 2 Nooelec v5 (2023) if necessary.

My experience so far with sdrtrunk is the tuners show up immediately when plugged in, so I'm wondering if that will prevent Unitrunker from accessing a 3rd/4th. Maybe there's a config setting to turn that functionality off.

I don't recall which release, he's put out so many lately and I've been testing a bunch of offshoot branches for him. Check the active branch on Github I'm sure you'll find the version that added the ability to disable tuners.

I am still running SDRTrunk V0.5.0 beta 5, it can disable tuners so I know that later versions have that capability, click on the Tuners tab --

Let SDRT discover the new SDR dongles, then disable them. Restart SDRT, then start Unitrunker.

I just start UT first and then start sdrt. I also wanted my airspy to handle 2 700mhz systems and the nooelec to do 1 800mhz system. So I set those as preferred tuners and let the autostart start the dongles. All works good.

Unitrunker will not decode phase 2, so if its just for a Motorola system then yes it should , but it may take up the first and second dongle

Many of us use Unitrunker v 2.1 for legacy Motorola systems and run SDRT for P25 systems simultaneously. Works fine once configured properly.
