Just getting started with SDS-100 and loving it. This a wonderful resource!

I've been enjoying the "full database" around my zip-code with a handful of Service Types enabled.

Then I created a favorites list with some specific local frequencies - a local ham repeater, a school district bus channel, our local electrical co-op, etc. All of these are in different service types.

Then I sent all this to my scanner and turn on Full-Database and my favorites list.

Trouble is, I have to turn on Service Types like "Schools", "Utilities", "Ham radio", etc. to hear the channels in my favorites. But when I do that, I also get all the stuff from the full-database in those service types.

I only want to listen to a few service types in the full-database and everything in my favorites list, regardless of service type. How do I do that?

Or, is there something more fundamental I don't get?

Thank you all for your time!

You have several options:
  1. Use the Edit / Add Channels On Range menu in Sentinel to add all of the stuff in your area to the FL, then delete or Avoid stuff you don't want to hear in the FL. Then, listen only to the FL.

  2. Enable the Custom 1 Service Type, and change stuff in your FL to the Custom 1 service type.

  3. Double-press Avoid to disable channels in the Full Database you never want to hear. You can also Avoid them in Sentinel so they will stay Avoided when you update the database and write the update to the scanner.

Enable the Custom 1 Service Type, and change stuff in your FL to the Custom 1 service type.

This is the ticket! I will be travelling a lot with this scanner and a GPS so I didn't want to muck with the full DB or make copies so it gets updated. Now I can scan that and my list with "custom 1" turned on and the right thing happens.

Thank you so very much!

You should update the full DB occasionally, you will use that as you move about.

Updating the full DB does not affect your favorites list.

If I copied items from the full-database to favorites lists, wouldn't I lose the benefit of the updates? I imagine details of systems change over time, and if I've copied them to a favorite I won't know about the updates?

It's a full time hobby for some.. Keeping FL's current with RRDB updates.. There are ways to know when a system of interest is updated..

You are on the right track. Update the full DB occasionally.

Compare what's in your favorites list occasionally as well. You will probably manually edit the favorites list in the future for small changes, opposed to copying from full db.

If there are big changes, you might choose to re- create your FLs. By then this all will be easy for you.

To check for updates in your area, periodically pull up your state in the main database here in RadioReference. If a system in one or more counties has been updated in the last 24 hours, you'll see your county on the state map shaded in Green. Click on your county to see what was changed. Often, it's just a housekeeping change to a description or something else that does not affect your programming. If your county shows in a yellowish tint, then a change has been made to a channel or system in your county in the past 7 days.
Look at your state today, 12/10
77846
As you can see, there have been changes of some type to a number of counties in the past 7 days.
Select your county to see what changed.
77847
77848
If you hover over the date in that second line (it's from the far right corner of the main county's page) it will tell you the last ten changes. If you click on that date and you'll see a list of changes going farther back.
77849
The changes were on a private trunked system, so unless you programmed it, there's nothing you need to change. If one of your selected agencies or trunked systems was changed, then look at it to see if you need to tweak your programming.

For those that are Premium Subscribers, you can create your own starting page, My RR. On that, you can add the counties and trunked systems of interest to you. So, everytime I start RR, I can quickly see if anything I monitor has changed. I then take a look at what was modified, and update programming as needed.
