Hello All,

I was perusing the airwaves with my SDR this afternoon and discovered an IDAS trunk channel which turned out to be for the following system:
Signature Wireless Group iDAS Multitrunk (Bay Area) Trunking System, San Rafael, California - Scanner Frequencies

I have this system in my SDS100 so I started to scan it when I noticed that it only decoded the control channel data (area number, sys id, etc.) and no voice, but my SDR and DSD+ were decoding all sorts of voice transmissions. My scanner was getting a fairly good signal (-80 to -60 dBm), however. Eventually it would decode some voice, but not nearly as much as DSD+.

Is there a known issue with IDAS systems on the SDS scanners? Is there something I am missing?

Thank you

I believe IDAS is Icom's flavor of NXDN.
You state that you have this system programmed into your SDS200 and hear some voice on it.

As I don't have the NXDN key purchased on my SDS200, I cannot say with certainty you can hear voice sometimes, but, if you don't have the NXDN option in your SDS200, then, me thinks you need to buy it before it will fully decode.

Otherwise, it could be an antenna/reception issue.

I have upgrade for NXDN already activated.

Then, maybe your SDR might not have as wide a receiving range as your Uniden SDS200.
If you are on a fringe reception area, IMHO, a "dedicated" receiver, such as your SDR, with a PC that can do all the heavy lifting, as in, filters, could be what makes the difference in your case?

The SDS have software filters built in. As weather, location, conditions change, you might want to cycle thru the available filters and see if that improves your reception?

When I said that your SDR might not have as wide as a receiving range as your SDS200, what I meant is, your SDR doesn't have to deal with a bunch of interfering signals as your SDS200, so that your SDR, shouldn't have to work as hard as your Uniden, to receive signals .

Yes, they both are working in the same band, however, the SDR, might be better shielded? and, as I've said, your PC is doing all the heavy lifting that your SDS, might be short on.

Others more knowledgeable ought to chime in and set me straight, though...

If the SDR and SDS aren't connected to the same antenna through a splitter/multicoupler, all bets are off.

Do you have this programmed as a NXDN trunk or monitoring it in conventional mode?
