Helpful video...the "do it yourself" method.

OK, now I'm getting overwhelmed and my head is spinning.

So I watched that video and he's basically ignoring the onboard database and entering raw frequencies from scratch.
Do I really have to do that? That should all be in there already and get added with the sites I want, no?

Here in Ohio, it looks like virtually everything I want to listen to on the SDS100 is on the Ohio MARCS-IP: Multi-Agency Radio Communications P25 Phase 1 system.

Couldn't I start by drilling down into USA / Ohio / Summit / Statewide / Ohio MARCS and append that as the System to a favorites list I create called "Summit"?

Thanks,
--Mark--

To answer your question on the video the answer is no, but it's another option you can use to program. This information is obtained via the database, but instead of downloading directly from the database, you can (at a later time if you desire), create your own lists with the information in the database. The "how do I do this" answer is go to your statewide system, scroll down the County column (find your county as it's possible there's more than one site), then directly to the left you'll see the Site name. Click on that link, scroll down and it will give you a map which will show you if you'll be in range of your location. From there, only the control channel frequencies are needed and you can create your own sites instead of pulling every site via the download and either deleting them/giving each a quick key/using location control. This method of programming also gives you more flexibility as I've discovered over the years, many talk groups are mis-labeled or usage has changed and hasn't been updated or was what someone "thinks" what it is and submits the information, you can use Volume Offset, Alert Lights or Alert Sounds etc. As time progresses, you'll be able to get more comfortable with the operation and usage and might look back some day and give it a try. The video is a good tutorial and you can stop and replay if you missed something.

To delete unwanted towers do the following -
1. Open Sentinel and click on System (i.e. MARCS)
2. Click on + next to MARCS.
3. Right Mouse Click on Tower you want to delete and select "Remove From Favorite List". You have to do one at a time.

Or invest in Proscan and you can choose only the site(s) and talkgroups you want to add without the whole "having to remove what you don't want" nonsense :ROFLMAO:. Why the Sentinel developer(s) never incorporated "pick & choose" at the site/dept/channel level is beyond me...

Thanks.
I have ProScan downloaded but not installed yet.
Once the radio is here and the initial setup is done, I’ll give it a try.

If you don't know how to determine the Sites needed, you might delete something you need. Sites aren't always named something you might recognize in the database. Probably a good idea to learn how to read the sites by county. You can always expand from there if you plan on traveling out of your area.
