I don't know all the technical details regarding how signals/transmitters work on the EBRCS system. I need to get a new scanner. I'm thinking about getting the SDS100. I'm located on Hayward/Union City border. I want to be able to listen to Richmond PD which is on CCCO West. I'm about 28 miles from southern part of CCCO West coverage map (Hayward to Albany). Can anyone tell me if I will be able to pick up those channels from my location on the SDS100. Will also be listening to Hayward PD/Fire.

On a side note: I'm coming from a Whistler. I do want a handheld, but am not 100% tied to the SDS100, so any radio recommendations that are handheld that will work on EBRCS would be helpful. In past, I used PSREdit500 for programming and loved how easy it was to pick what I wanted to listen to and upload the programming to my unit.

Thank you in advance!

That is a long shot for 700 MHz radios. If you live closer to the bay, say west of 880, you may have a path. I'm not sure where the CoCo West radio sites are but I'm afraid the hills will block any signal out. I'm in Fremont and cannot pick up ALCO NW Oakland sites.

On the other hand, I also live in Fremont and have no problem picking up ALCO NW or ALCO East sites. I cannot however receive any of the Contra Costa sites with my BCD325P2 or BCD996P2 scanners.

The westernmost site in the CCCO WEST cell is on Nichol Knob in Pt. Richmond. It might just be high enough and far enough west for you to hear in Hayward. I know our mobile radios still work in Hayward, but I can't speak for scanners.
