I have my back light set to shut off after 15 seconds it works perfect but if I have the scanner charging from the plug in the house or from my computer the back light will not turn off.
Any one else seeing this or is it only my scanner.

Its a display setting, not a bug.

It would be nice if you could set the scanner to do a discovery and have the screen shut off after 15 seconds when scanning, especially when you leave the scanner in discovery mode for several hours or a day or two instead of having the screen on for longer periods. I already did a discorery and forgot to set it to charge and the batterie died.

That wouldn't have helped. If the scanner is plugged into a good USB power source, it will run off USB even if the battery is absent. If the scanner died, you have a crappy USB adapter or a bad cable.

You need a 2A or greater USB source to run the SDS100.

Some computer ports only supply 500mA. Not enough to run the scanner, let alone charge it. Check the rating on any USB wall wart you use with the SDS100.

USB ports on computers are designed primarily for data and not for charging.

Thank you for all this information on charging, but I am having no issues with charging the scanner, my post was about the back light but thanks anyway.

Standard USB 2 data ports on computers are 500mAh
USB3 are 750mah (some are 1 A)
Scanner needs about 700mAh to run if memory serves me correctly form previous postings on RR.
The wallwart is i believe 1.5 or2 Amp.

That's not the problem though. If your USB power and cable were good your scanner would run continuously even with the backlight on constantly at 100% brightness.

And I answered your question in post #2 anyhow. There's a display setting to turn the display on continuously when USB power is present. You can disable it.
