I'm having so much trouble with my scanner lately. First the charging port is going out and I have to manually hold the cord in the right spot with pressure for it to connect for power or programming. I tried powering it with the other port (I know it won't charge with that, I just wanted power to run it) and that doesn't work at all. I got an external charger and new battery and put that battery in and am using only that for power.

Now it's shutting off randomly. Sometimes I'm in the act of setting it down and it turns off. Sometimes it's just been sitting on the table with nobody touching it and it turns off. Sometimes in the middle of a transmission. Since the screen is off when there's no transmission (I'm trying to save battery), I often don't even realize it's shut down until I notice I haven't heard anything in awhile and I try moving the dial or hitting a key. Many times it's turned itself off. It's not hot and it's working properly for scanning when it's on. It's got good battery power with the brand new battery - currently at 3.63V.

Just now it had been working fine and it happened again. I picked it up to check a setting and...it's turned off again. No warning, no saving to sd card message, nothing. Just a blank screen and I have to hit the power button to turn it back on. I just powered it back up, the lists loaded and I hit the menu key to check the setting and it shut down again before I even got the settings selected. It doesn't do or say anything, it's just suddenly off. I powered it on again, got into settings, turned off the flash w/backlight off setting and was checking the other backlight settings and it shut off again while I was in there. It's happening more and more frequently, I think.

I know I need to send it in for repair for the ports - and the dial that's not landing on options properly - but is this now another thing I need to add to the repair order? Or am I just totally missing something? This is a very new thing - but I also wasn't using battery power very much before. I'm sure that's not the issue but what is?

Sounds like the battery is possibly just loose enough to lose contact, while moving or even a slight vibration, check that it's snug inside the battery compartment. IDK, definitely needs a visit to repair.

Try cleaming the battery contacts and the scanners contacts...
Is the foam pad in the battery cover compressed to the point it's not putting enough pressure to hold the batt tight against the contacts?

It sounds as if the copper foil have broken at the charge port and has damage the foil also going to the micro USB port. All 5 volt ports and batterys 4 volt goes to a 3.3 volt regulator so those higher voltages merge before going to the 3.3 volt regulator, probably at the area of the circuit board where the damage charge port are. Just be clear to state that the micro USB port as well as the mini USB isn't working and they will for sure replace that whole circuit board.

As @Ubbe said, be sure and list everything you are having problems with when you send the unit back to Uniden. If you have DMR/NXDN/Provoice upgrades be sure and list them on the work order.

I did have a battery expand on me but I don't think it was that way for long. But maybe that did do something to the padding in the cover so it's not as tight as it should be. I've just put some more padding in there so I had to put more pressure on it to close the latch. I'll see if that makes any difference. I wiped off the contacts, too.

I also set it so the screen is always on so I can see right away if it does shut down.

I've gone all day now without it turning off so I think it was an issue with the battery not connecting fully. I guess I need to get some more foam tape in there because a folded up Kleenex is probably not the best option even though it's currently working... ;)

Well, to be fair, it WAS broke. And still is. It's going to go to the shop either way. But at least now it's somewhat usable until my replacement scanner gets here. If FED EX will ever deliver it, that is. It was purchased with upgraded 3-day shipping last Monday and there's still no sign of it. Somebody else ordered it so I don't have the tracking info. I'm just holding this one together with..I guess Kleenex...until it gets here and I can send this one off for repair.
