With the past issues of battery latch failure, is the latch on the 150 improved?

Thanks!

Here are the most relevant other threads where the SDS150 battery latch design/change is addressed (focusing on improvements, durability, or comparisons to the SDS100):

- Uniden's Official SDS150 Tech Discussion (main ongoing thread for the model):
SDS150: - Uniden's Official SDS150 Tech Discussion
Particularly around page 19 (post from Dec 2025), users note a key design change: the latch is now secured by a small metal strap held in place with a pair of screws. This makes it much easier to repair or replace if it ever fails (just needs a small Phillips screwdriver—no major disassembly). Multiple users comment that the latch itself feels stronger than the original SDS100 version (some had replaced their SDS100 latches with aftermarket carbon fiber ones for comparison). One user explicitly says it's not necessarily that Uniden "anticipates" failure, but the screw/strap setup is a practical improvement for serviceability. No widespread reports of breakage on the SDS150 yet.

(Page 2 has direct questions about battery changing procedure and if it's "better than the flimsy latch on the SDS100.") Owners respond positively about usability, with no complaints of fragility mentioned in the replies.

- BATTERY REMOVAL - SDS150:
SDS150: - BATTERY REMOVAL
Focuses more on how tight/stiff the latch feels initially (requiring firm pressure or even a gentle screwdriver assist at first use), but users describe techniques to release it easily (e.g., pressing the battery inward while pulling the latch). This implies it's secure and not loose/fragile—opposite of the SDS100 complaints.

- New Uniden Scanner announcement at SEMA 2025 (announcement/discussion thread):

(Around page 30) Some cross-references to SDS100 latch issues and aftermarket fixes (e.g., carbon fiber replacements from Bart's Scanners on eBay), but no SDS150-specific breakage reports—mostly hoping/preventing the old problem.

Overall consensus from these threads (as of early 2026 posts):
Yes, the SDS150 battery latch appears improved—stronger feel, and the added metal strap/screw retention is a smart engineering tweak that makes any potential future failure far easier/cheaper to fix compared to the all-plastic, snap-in design on the SDS100 (which had endless breakage threads and aftermarket solutions). No major failure reports have surfaced for the SDS150 yet, unlike the flood for the SDS100.

Haven't had issues with mine, however I haven't really been removing the battery.

Thanks Jason, I appreciate the details.

So far so good with the latch on the 150. I have two batteries and swap them out. I used both batteries the other day so had one in the cradle and one in the radio to charge. The one in the radio finished charging before the extra slot one did.
