Good morning everyone

I have another question I am powering my SDS200 from a gel cell battery. My question is can I put a trickle charger on the battery when the radio is turned off. Without disconnecting the power wires to the radio. I’m assuming if the radio is turned off. This should be no issue putting the trickle charger on the battery with the radio still hooked up but turned off. When I’m operating the radio I do not leave the charger on. Here is a picture of battery I am using.

The battery works as a constant voltage source and smooths out any voltage irregularities so no problem charging even when the scanner is on. There are drop in charges for portables and the generator in a car charges the battery and you can use the car stereo at the same time and not only when the motor is switched off.

Thank you very much for clarifying this information. I was thinking this was the situation but I wanted to make sure.

You very much Roger

How long can you run your SDS200 on the battery?

I just started running it on this battery. I normally use this battery for my ICOM 718. I use it for portable operation and get several hours of transmitting out of it. I will re-post when I no how long is it will work on this battery.

Thanks, Roger! The reason I ask is that I am on constant lookout for backup power systems and what people are using, as I am in the midst of re-designing my own system. I pick up a little something from one person, another something from another. Lots of good ideas here.
