I met my good friend whom is a detective with SHPD today. He showed me his radio as I was curious. This is how it was programmed. Detectives and the Chief have Motorola DMR radios. Patrol units have older Moto UHF radios.
They are programmed as follows:
CH 01 = SHPD 1
CH 02 = SHPD 1 TA (Talkaround, simplex)
CH 03 = SHPD 3
CH 04 = SHPD 3 TA (Talkaround, simplex)
CH 05 = Detective ENC
He said CH 05 is the only DMR channel, and is simplex. I didn't have a scanner on me to use close call or anything. Just putting it out there if anyone in the area can confirm. He told me that they are running Encryption on their DMR channel. He also told me they cannot talk to Lavallette on their DMR system.
