Hi All,

I had recently started streaming my Scanner using Windows Media Encoder that was fully open via a port from my IP.

Early this morning I noticed multiple windows open on my Vista machine. Windows Explorer was open a few times in various areas like C:,System 32: and system critical stuff like that.

I checked the Windows log and I see multiple attempts to create user accounts.

Needless to say I've changed WME to accept from known IP's only. Which really sux because I enjoyed sharing my listening enjoyment with everyone.

Do you guys agree that my box was compromised?

Absolutely.

And one of the reasons I never stream to the outside world from open ports on my box.

I always relay.

I hope you have backups.

The only way to be sure is to wipe the box and re-install from scratch.

And implement some firewall security.

what would you guys say about pushing to a server, such as streamwebtown or whatever it is called? No additional ports are needed to be opened on the router (if i remember correctly) and everyone else is connecting to the link from the host.

I'm all ears if something else is more secure. I tried streamwebtown but the service (free although) was often down.

I really liked running just WME because it was very lite and not having to run two programs was even better.

I think streamwebtown is unreliable? When will the Chesterfield and all your other area streams be working again?
