Seeking antenna recommendation for HomePatrol-1

I just ordered a HomePatrol-1 on eBay. It hasn't come yet. How good is the stock antenna? I will be primarily using this 5 or 15 air miles from two major metropolitan centers and possibly while mobile. I have a number of spare dual band Ham HT antennas (Nagoya NA 771, Comet SMA24J) and gender changers. What antennas are recommended?

For mobile use, mount an antenna on the exterior of the vehicle. Any antenna inside the vehicle will work like crap because the body will block most of the signal.

My favorite scanner whip antenna is the Diamond RH77CA--I prefer a BNC connector if swapping antennas regularly. The push-on-pull-off design of the BNC puts less wear on the connector when swapping than a threaded connector. IIRC you'll need a 90-degree SMA-BNC adapter for the HomePatrol.

I use the Remtronix 800 for both base and mobile use. Scanner is mounted on a Garmin beanbag mount. I get 20-25 mi reception just fine
