Sentinel and "empty" trunked systems

This suggestion is an extension of a discussion in the Database Forum.

Sentinel does not download trunked systems from Radio Reference if there are no talkgroups in the database for that system. The evident motivation for this choice is to avoid confusion for the newbies toward whom the HP series is directed.

However, this is problematic for the more advanced user who would prefer to have the system built in the database so they can search out talkgroups, or for the user who would not otherwise be aware that a particular system even exists.

I suggest that Sentinel be modified to give the user the option to download "empty" (non-scannable in current parlance) systems with ID Search mode set. This could be part of the main Sentinel setup or maybe an additional Extreme option.

In an attempt to make the problem more clear to those of us who are challenged, I have performed a little exercise.

Using the EZScan Software, I downloaded (from the EZScan "Library") a large P25 Simulcast System (10 Sites, All CC Frequencies) but did NOT HIGHLIGHT (select) any TGs. The download was successful, and I now have a P25 System suitable for "discovery" type of activities such as are available using my HP-1(E)s. However, I am not aware of any such "discovery" functions associated with my GRE 800s (that would be above my pay scale anyway, lol), so my TG (less) TRS appears to be useless, lol.

Now, I will attempt a similar exercise using Sentinel for downloading (from the Sentinel Database) into a Favorite List. Oops, No Sale! Sites and Frequencies won't "Append" (they are grayed out).

Does this pretty much explain the "problem"?

Or, is the "problem" more that Sentinel will not populate the Sentinel Database with an RR Database TRS that does not already contain Sites, Frequencies, and TGs?

Or maybe both examples?

Thanks!

Not sure what you are seeing, but Sentinel won't show the Systems at all that the OP is talking about, as they are filtered out.

But, if you have them in FreeScan, use the conversion Excel spreadsheet to convert them to Sentinel format and write that. It should paste without issue.

Where is that feature in freescan?

That is an Excel spreadsheet that is posted in the forum here. Search for Excel Sentinel Freescan and you should be able to find it.
