Thought I had a real good handle on this but apparently not. Currently have (example) 0.0.10 as a dept I'd like to toggle on/off. If I hit Channel, enter the sequence and press channel, it will go directly to that channel. However, while scanning and want to turn that channel off, I press the same sequence then ENTER, I get beeped at without anything happening. What am I doing wrong? I've tried writing to the scanner 3 time to no avail.

Sounds like you may be confusing Number Tags with Quick Keys.

Number Tags give you a way to jump directly to a tagged location, like a specified conventional channel or talkgroup.
Quick Keys let you turn assigned Favorites Lists, Systems, and Departments (or Sites, which share the same level as Department keys).

See if this Wiki page helps:

You're confusing number tags and quick keys. Quick keys toggle things on and off, number tags are shortcuts to jump to a channel. You don't hit the channel button for quick keys, you just enter the quick key numbers with periods between favorite list, system, and department/site levels.

There are several videos on YouTube that explain Quick Keys and Number Keys...
just go to youtube and search for uniden bcd536hp quick keys or uniden bcd536hp number keys. Sometimes seeing the procedure done on the actual radio helps.

Also remember that anything concerning number tags or quick keys on the SDS100 or SDS200 applies to the 536HP & 436HP. The procedure & usage is exactly the same between the SDS & x36HP scanners.

Thanks for all the input. The way I'm trying to do this does not appear possible and it only affects one specific TG within the system. I'll just use AVOID. It's more important to "go to" the specific number tag than turn it on/off. If anyone is interested the path is: Indiana/Lake/County/Lake Co Pub Safety/Lake Co Fire-EMS. My FL is 0, System is 0, Ops channels are 1-4. Added 10 for East Dispatch (Gary) which is the one that will be avoided. And yes, I do confuse QK's and number tags.

Avoids are the only way to toggle an individual channel. Quick keys only go down to the department/site level.

What month is it?
Also of note:
When turning dept/site QKs on/off, you have to be scanning that system at the time.
Make sure your radio is on that system when you hit that first "." of the sequence.

Maybe I missed it but this one fact was not clear to me in the owners manual...now i know how to use QKs !!
Now I need to find a use for them :)

If I turn a department quick key off on a P25 trunking system department is the result like "avoiding" every TG in the department?
Occasionally I desire to do this...QK might be the answer.
Thanks

Turning off or avoiding a system shuts off everything in the system. The same goes for a department. And the opposite is true when you toggle it back on.

That's because starting with a . or .. is a shortcut to 'Existing System or Existing Site/Dept' respectively.

The non-shortcut way is stated in the manual: FLQK.SysQK.Site/DeptQK (never starts with a .)

Since we are talking about shortcuts . . .

If you have a Quick Key (Favorites/System/Department) that starts with a "0", such as "01", the leading 0 may be omitted from the button press sequence.

That I do not know.

You could always try it and see what happens. Fortunately you can undo programming fairly easy.

You need to program all of the parent levels or you're going to have issues. Don't program a department key until you've programmed keys for the favorite list and system containing the department. Otherwise you're going to have significant trouble using a department key.

Correct. I too would encourage a FQK of 1 and SQK of 1 so you can access them any time (on that System or not).
