As the anniversery of 9-11 comes around again i was wondering if anyone would like to share what they may have heard on their radios that day. My radio was right in front of me but i never turned it on, i was glued to my TV, my brother was working in one of the towers, Thank God he made it out. Im sure there were some wild things going through the air that day but i never got a chance to hear them. any memories you have would be nice to hear. If this thread doesn't belong here im sorry, but i thought it may be of intrest.

I was glued to the TV as were most people but I did turn on the scanner later in the day to record the ATIS broadcast about the national airspace closure.

That morning after the aircraft ban was in effect I turned on my old 780XLT and heard what I have never heard before and hope to never hear again on the local aircraft freqs. "All aircraft must squak to my code or you will be scrambled" or for folks who do not know what that means, an F-16 will shoot your ass down. Tulsa tower and Kansas City Center broadcasted this about every 10 minutes all day and through the evening. I heard Airforce One Identify long after all aircraft had been grounded and they were somewhere over Kansas or Missouri. All that was up that evening was Military craft and Medical Helicopters that was it. What a day that was. We will never forget.

I'm right where I was that day, at work.

I was on a 7a-7p shift that day and was doing 12hs for a few more days because of the attacks. Didn't get to see anything on TV until that night when I got home.

I also was glued to my TV that day. I forgot all about my scanner. i would be very interested to hear some stories (or hear recording) of some of the events that day from places other the NYC, and D.C. How did agencies across the nation really react to this? Was the crime rate down? what was it like?

I was running the control board for "Imus in the Morning" on WTAR in Norfolk when Warner Wolf called in on his day off to report that he saw a plane hit one of the towers.

The rest of the day is mostly a blur with a few stark images.

We were in Denver, CO, that morning and were to fly back to Milwaukee, WI. We were watching tv when we saw the first plane hit the tower, and later the second tower. We were stuck in Denver until Friday when our flight was to fly again.

We were suppose to rebook the flight. I didn't do that. We got to the airport and found other people got our seats. We were given a flight to Chicago where we rented a car and drove the eighty miles to Milwaukee. That was a long week. It was really great to get home again after all that.

I was also at work...Westchester County Courthouse. Watched the towers burn as we evacuated the building. I remember to this day looking out from the 15th floor and seeing only one tower standing, then out the 13th floor and not seeing any towers.

RIP to all who lost their lives that day...

I for one am probably the odd ball. I worked 3rd shift the night before so I was asleep until about noon. Even then I didn't even turn on the TV and was outside doing yard work until my wife came pulling up in the driveway from work asking me before she even stopped the car what I thought about it all.
I had no clue what she was even talking about until she told me. That was around 4:30pm that day and I
watched TV the rest of the evening.

To me its the day that lasted for 3 days, we took a medical run just before the first plane hit the tower , and arrived in the ER to view it on a tv that was on the today show. Then as we were watching i saw the second plane hit the other tower on live tv. I made a comment to my fellow coworkers that we were in for a long day. We took 2 more runs and heard about the pentagon, all while listening to howard stern on the radio. Love him or hate stern he done an extrordinary job informing people that day. My shift was held over for another 24 hr shift. I recall asking for a medflight helicopter for a car accident and was told if its not an emergency they wouldnt fly. In the weeks after i know the area i work for raised over $ 200,000.00. May those lost on that day rest in peace.

Very Sad Day!

I remember exactly where I was that very moment. I was at home getting ready to go to work at the courthouse in Bridgeport, Fairfield county. (first county you enter as you leave NYC into CT). I was standing there in shock as I watched the second plane hit the second tower. My phone rang. It was my Supervisor telling me to get in asap as we were evacuating all the courthouses. I was in the transportation unit at the time. I dont know how I got to work. I was in utter shock and disbelief. The sad thing is that it is now 7 years later and we are no safer than we were that day. This country will never learn.....

I was living in NYC at the time, trying to remember what was coming over my radios is really impossible. One would think you might remember something like that morning, but it's a total blur.
The weeks following that day are also blurry, I remember doing a lot of work on the HAM VHF/UHF bands mostly giving driving directions around the city to lots of incoming volunteers.

I was home sleeping in. My Uncle called me and told me to turn on my TV because we were under attack. I had a hard time understanding what was going on till I got awake. I had a job back then working in a 24/7 service station & sporting goods place. They called everyone in that day. The rumor hit our town that the tanker trucks wasn't going to run for about a week. Everyone went into a panic putting gas in anything they could get their hands on. The phone lines going to the credit card places were jammed.

I didn't hear stuff on a scanner that day - directly on the radio.

I was a junior calltaker on 9-1-1 in the Calgary Fire Department. We had a large-screen TV in Dispatch that was watched all night usually and turned off after the morning news. We got into work at 6am MT (8am ET) and were settling in for the day when the local news showed a high-rise on fire. Since we knew it wasn't ours, we figured it was in a fairly major city to be being covered on local TV. It took very little time to realize it was the WTC, and then we switched to CNN to keep watching.

My supervisor was right beside me, as her desk was closest to the junior operator's console for monitoring purposes. She was muttering things all morning about how we were at war and that 50,000 people had to be dead.

Our radios were staggeringly quiet for the rest of the day. About the only thing that happened all day was our airport crews (here, the ARFF crews are city owned and dispatched) were deployed to help marshal and check on the planes that were sent to YYC.

Its interesting how the mind remembers even the slightest things during an event such as this. For most when you think back its like yesterday. I was on my way to Dayton Oh. listening to WBYR 98.9 and thought it was a sick joke. The DJ are known for that. After they wouldnt quit talking about it I made a call to a friend had him turn the tv on a see. As I approached DIA The Sky was full of planes waiting to land. I got to Dayton registared for my appointment and was called back to the back right away which was unusual. I was taken to the Doctors lounge where the whole staff was watching on the TV. After I got outa there I went to a friends fathers house who lived across the river from Wright Patterson. We set on the porch watching the fighters patrol the airspace around the base. Which was heavier and with full armaments, shook his house constantly. That was a day most Americans will Never Forget.........
