Setting up Unitrunker using Pro 97

I'm interested in using Unitrunker but not sure of the equipment needed to set it up using the Pro 97.

You need a discriminator tap on the pro-97 and a cable to connect the output of the tap to your computer. I used a 1/8" stereo jack for my tap output and use a 1/8" stereo cable to hook it up to my PC.

Thanks for the reply. I notice when I look on the Wiki page that describes the Discriminator output for the Pro 97 there are two cables in the picture, a blue one and a black one. Are these 1/8 stereo cables or some other type of cable?

No, those are actually small wires inside the scanner. The blue one is soldered to a resistor that is then soldered to the discriminator test point. the black is a ground. They both get soldered to the 1/8" jack. You need to studt all you can find on the subject, because if your not REAL carefull you can damage your scanner. Maybe you can find an electronics shop that will do it for you.

Everything makes sense to me except where the blue and black wires come from. When I open the Pro 97 there are two wires-a white and black one. Where do I get the black and blue wires from? From my understanding, once you have these two wires the blue one is soldered to a resistor that is then soldered to the discriminator test point as you have described. Then the black wire is a ground. Then they both get soldered to the 1/8" jack. I have everything else...just really confused about where the blue and black wires come from.

You supply the blue and the black wire. As you can see in your own radio, they are not there just waiting to be tapped. It doesn't really matter what the wire colors are, or what type they are. I used some very thin coax when I tapped my pro 2005's. The streo jack isn't a requirement. You can use a mono jack if needed. As you can see one of the stereo "channels" is left unused. Also, when you install the jack on the radio please find some better way than what the author of that article suggests. Putting the jack on the out side is UUUUGGGGGLEEEE!

On the discriminator tap:
Some people suggest a tantalum capacitor-thats what I usedhttp://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/Scandata_faq_q3(check out step 3. Bill Cheek the great grandaddy of scanner hacks wrote this). Others suggest a resistor. Still others suggest a small op-amp. Things to consider if it doesn't work, you have a few other options to try.

The 10K ohm resistors work fine, have both a 2055 and a 2053 tapped this way. Some like to use both. You could drill a hole in the back cover and mount the jack there, just leave enough slack wire to do so.
