Hi all, I just purchased a Radio Shack Pro-97. I need to figure out the scanning frequencies to input them.

Right now the scanner is scanning local, national list fire, etc.

When scanning I assume that shawnee is still using analog so I can pick up a good bit of activity. I did not realize this scanner was only analog and researched digitals. They are about double what I paid. Do you all think I will be able to pick up good activity?

How do I know I am missing more digital activity than I am getting with the analog. From the sounds of the current activity on the scanner, the town seems fairly quiet. I suppose this is normal until something happens to cause police communications.????

Thanks

thanks fireant......... this helps me just knowing this.

from my first post here did it look like I am getting my cities activities?
as before, I get local, the national pre programmed list shows its being scanned for activity, fire, weather from the weather button etc. It seems this town is pretty quiet right now. Not much going on. Is there any updated or specific frequencies website that keep the frequencies in my area current? Or, do I just have to scanned and note the frequency and activity comes in? still learning.

Greetings--

It sounds like you are new to scanning, so I'll start with the basics. To start with your digital question, have no fear. Most everything you want to listen to in Shawnee and Pott County can easliy be monitored with your Pro-97 (at least for now).

The Radio Reference Database has all the information you need to get your scanner working properly. If you look at the top of this page, right under where it says "Your Complete Radio Source", you will find a blue bar (Home - Your Account - Forums - Database - Wiki - Submit Info). Click on Database and you'll see a map of the US. Click on Oklahoma and you'll get a list of Oklahoma Counties. Click on Pottawatomie county and you'll see a list of active frequencies.

Most of the interesting activity in the Shawnee area is "trunked." This means, you cannot just jam the frequencies in the scanner, but you need to tell the scanner what to do with them (the radios are controlled by computer). Links to these systems are located right under the maps at the top of the page. You will be most interested in the "Shawnee, City of" System and the "State of Oklahoma DPS / City of Tulsa" system (enter the frequencies for the Tecumseh site.

Your scanner should have come with all the documentation to enter these frequencies in the proper manner. However, if you have problems getting up and running, come on back here and we'll be glad to help out.

Welcome to the scanning hobby, and let us know what you are hearing out there in Shawnee Land.
