Have they gone to the Big E or am I having radio/antenna trouble? I'm hearing the FD just fine but nothing on the PD side. Not one call on the 4th of July?

Ok, this is not normal. Is anyone else monitoring Sherman? I have heard them once today; this is a very active channel. It is acting like Denison with random hits. I have three radios going and not a peep in the last six hours.

What scanner are you using? Normally, the Uniden scanners skip over encrypted channels. However, if you hold the scanner on that frequency, you might see the "Enc" in the display, indicating encryption, even though you are not hearing the audio.

Sherman PD primaries on 155.01000 NAC 317 however they have 5 TAC channels and 2 dedicated SWAT channels both of which are licensed as P25 only (NO analog). The 5 TAC channels are for special events/crime scene and are Analog only and rarely used. (These are NOT the same as Sherman Fire TAC channels.) Sherman PD have the option to go encrypted on primary but a phone call is easier most of the time. The MDC also carries a lot of traffic via an in house messenger app much like Bonham PD's private Chat on their MDC's. There is also some POC use by specialized units. Sherman ISD Police operate on a new multi-site DMR system. Sherman has kicked around the idea of a Trunking system but its wireless provider has discouraged them from it as it would take money out of his pockets. Police is hard to hear outside of the city where as Fire can be heard quite well a county any direction. 155.01000 is a 5 site simulcast so digital distortion can be a factor on older digital scanners.

Thanks.
I had no problem picking them up until sometime late on the 3rd. I'm roughly 15 miles as the crow flies from the tower. I'll keep picking at it till I find out what's going on. The County and Whitesboro are still good as is Van Alstyne. I still get an occasional hit on Denison but we know what that is.

It's better this morning but some of the transmissions are clipped. Thanks.
They are going to start on the widening project from the county line in Van Alstyne to Hwy 1417 after the first of the year. Six lanes in places with quite a few new overpasses. It's gonna be a goatrope.

Talking to the TXDOT engineer that's leading the US75 widening project, the design work starts in 2024, but they won't start moving dirt until 2025. There was a proposal to do an accelerated timeline for the feeder roads in Van Alstyne and Howe making them one-way, but there was too much push back from citizens due to the lack of crossovers for some stretches.

There's a good reason why I tend to go to McKinney more than I go to Sherman, and that multi-year mess on US75 is a good part of it.

Good to know about the actual dirt date.
Back to on topic. I heard Sherman PD tell everyone to restart their radios around 1:30 this afternoon and reception has been much better since. Just strange.

My drug of choice is Greenville!

Gopher -- Shipman has been updating several cities today, Fannin Fire was up and down all day with several radio checks by "Radio Service" Bonham has two new antenna sites I've noticed over the last week. Sherman due to the expansion and TI project has been needing more coverage and channels for some time. While I don't see anything new in the FCC data it wouldn't surprise me to hear they have amended some frequencies and improved the simulcast coverage a little. Sherman PD has never had very good "out of city" coverage like Sherman Fire has. Maybe they are expanding that. I am hearing Sherman PD at 3 bars on the TRX-2 here in SE Fannin which is almost never so there is some change since the reboot.

License issued yesterday for a new trunked system in Sherman.
Looks like 5 channel 4 site simulcast.
With 100 Watts of power, I might be able to pick them up in Van Alstyne with my indoor antenna (still figuring out what I'm going to build for an HOA approvable rooftop antenna), if I do, I'll make sure to get my base station to monitoring it (Haven't had a good challenge like that since Collin County joined PAWMCo). I suspect though that with a 4-site simulcast they'll probably dial down the power, but we shall see.

Frequency change also?
It's a new system with new frequencies.
I don't know if it's on the air yet.
It won't be in the database until somebody figures it out and submits it.
Program these frequencies as analog FM and see if you hear any digital noise.
