Good day all,

I have too many scanners to make much use of them all; i have an R30 and R6, plus a pair of AOR AR8000 as well as a couple of decent desktop scanners and I have been thinking about selling all of the handhelds and using the funds to replace them all with an AOR AR-DV10.

I know the DV10 has had an "interesting" genesis but it does look like most if not all of the issues have been resolved so the unit now looks like a fairly decent all-round receiver.

Am I daft for thinking of doing this?

Tra for now.

From everything I've read the quality of the DV-10 leaves a lot to be desired. It is a "one-radio-does-it-all" kit, but that philosophy rarely works. I think you would be better served if you kept the R-30 (the best portable IMHO) and purchased radios dedicated to the modes in which you're interested.

Yes.

Seriously, the AR-DV10 isn't that bad. I have an Icom IC-R30 also, it is a better radio overall, IMO. However, it doesn't do DMR, which is heavily in use in my area. So, it depends on which modes you need. If you don't need DMR, I would keep the R30. I can't speak to the other models you listed, I have never used them.

I know, i paid around 1000$ new a few years ago. The AR-DV10 is 2229$ over here. At this price i would have expected at least a configurable color display and a waterfall. I get that it supports more digital modes than the R30 but for me it not worth the extra 1200$.
