Hey guys, newbie here, having fun listening and finding retail stores, I've mapped one or 2 businesses at 2 shopping centers. When submitting to the database, what's the best way to add those shopping centers?

There's about 5 listed already but I've discovered about 3 or 4 already

Also, do I need to add the types and stuff? They just use frs radios AFAIK so it would be "mobile" ?

Also here are a few others if anyone can confirm what these are

Hmm looks like it says don't send common use? So no chance of getting shopping centers added/updated? Am I reading that right? :( 😞
Shopping Centers - Yes with their own Frequencies - Security/Maint etc
Box Stores - with a common Nationwide allocation - same Freq/Tone at each store - NO

This one shows ross in a shopping center, despite being the same frequency and tone across the nation. Would love to add all the local shopping centers in the area but looks like that will have to be done outside of the website for those interested in listening to stores?

You can always add a section for retail or businesses to the wiki page of whatever county they are in and include FRS/MURS and nationwide dot frequencies for particular stores.

So basically there will never be a more robust list of stores in shopping centers than what is there now?

On the database website or something else?

I don't know. What county are the stores in that you discovered?

Every county page in the database should have a wiki link that goes to its page on The RadioReference Wiki where members can add additional information like radio IDs, paging tones and unidentified frequencies.

Contra costa. There's 4 shopping centers already listed. One of them only has 2 stores and one is ross lol. That's why I'm confused.

I'll try and find that link, thanks

Very few people have the desire and the time of day to monitor & figure out retail traffic, it's a niche monitoring interest in an already niche hobby as it is where the vast majority of hobbyists are primarily focused on emergency services & not much else

I travel a lot for work, and I'm always at shopping centers for a bit, especially in the winter when it's slow. Typical store visit is 1-2 hours.

Just to be clear, if I managed to map a bunch of shopping centers accurately, they wouldn't add the data to the shopping center listing under retail in the database?

It would be up to the Database Admin if they wanted to create a category for the mall or not, you certainly can include the link to Contra Costa and ask them to when you did your submission, perhaps they will follow the lead of that DB Admin.

But, as others have said, this is a niche monitoring interest, especially since you need to be at the mall to hear a lot of the traffic and a lot of people don't want to call attention to themselves with a scanner now a days. But I would never discourage you from trying.

Ok worst case I will just make a post in the California section with a list of the shopping centers and cities for anyone interested. It's quite interesting hearing what is going on at best buy or ross lol. Guess I'm the minority here lol. Also, even cheap baofeng has a fbi style earpiece that requires no effort. Easy to program a favorites list of nearby stores when you're in the area.

I would strongly suggest to you, rather than putting them in a forum post, you add them to the Wiki for that area as @nd5y suggested, it would probably get seen more there.

However, most Database Admins will add it under the business section for a county/city but might not create a separate section for the name of the mall.

Unless someone submits the information, no.

If the business in question is using a unique frequency and squelch, it's permitted. Common nationwide frequencies such as FRS and so on are not permitted as they're already in the database under Nationwide frequencies. You may put them in the Wiki for he county in question, but they cannot go in the database.
