Shopping On eBay For An APX?

Question about shopping on eBay for an APX 7000 or 8000. I need (want) 700 & 800 MHz trunking P25 Phase II for monitoring only. Before I buy, how can I make sure:

- The syskey.exe generator will produce system keys that will work?
- the radio can be made to not auto affiliate
- you can trust the eBay seller?

And, what's the part number for the programming software?

But the scanners don't work on simulcast P25 trunking. Otherwise, I would. I would also be open to any other APX radios (portable or mobile).

Wanna wait till the phase II G5 is out first and we know it works. Another problem is the Unications don't have a scan delay or hold.

Sorry to say If you have to ask these questions. You probably have no business programming a trunking radio for non affiliate scan on a public safety system. You will cause issues with legitimate users and will eventually have your radio bricked by the system admin therefore making you investment a paperweight.

So how are people supposed to know without asking questions? I used to have an XTS3000 and got it to work back then with no auto affiliate.

A Unication G5 Pager will do what you want. The firmware upgrade for Phase II will be out this year. These pagers are specifically designed for P25 simulcast systems and WILL NOT affiliate. With recent firmware updates to the APX line of radios and newer version of CPS, the APX radios have no choice but to affiliate. There is no method that prevents it from doing otherwise. The pager is going to cost you $600.00 and comes with the software. An APX is going to cost you a couple thousand at least.

Yup. Bootleg radios are not only an annoyance, they can cause legitimate users to have problems. Nevermind the fact that once the radio attempts to access a system, even once, a felony has been committed in just about every state. Not even going to bother with the Feds, because it's much easier to pop someone at the state level.

And no scan delay and hold is still a problem. So you're saying that's it, no way to nix the auto-affiliate?

Yep. Current 15.00.10 will make your radio stand out like a sore thumb. I zapped five completely bogus IDs on my system in the past month that I suspect were no-affiliate scan hackjobs done wrong. GenWatch is a great product and makes my job so easy.

The only radio that I can recommend that WILL NOT ABSOLUTELY EVER attempt to register on a network and can be programmed true RX only is a Relm KNG series.

The NeoVision software will, without any hacking or violating any laws, allow a P25 trunked system to be defined as true receive only, with transmit completely disabled at the firmware level. The user still has to know the system specifics but other than that, it is about as good as it gets.

I have one on my system as a demo and can confirm this works. Other than that, buy a scanner or a Unication.

Would love to use a scanner if only they worked right on P25 Phase I & II simulcast. I've actually tried a couple different scanners already and they totally sucked and ended up returning them. Maybe there's a way to get ahold of older software that'll do the non-auto affiliate. The G5 doesn't have Phase II yet and what if there are delays or bugs if/when it comes out?

And what about the system key? syskeygen.exe was back when system IDs were a 4-digit hex format. But now, P25 are only 3-digits. So do you only type in 3-digits into syskeygen.exe? And what about the WACN? Isn't that also part of the system key and how do you put it into syskeygen.exe?

What you're wanting to do has been discussed on this forum and a host of other forums. There are hundreds of threads that discuss it at length.....at long length. It's not a matter of learning HOW to do it as much as its a matter of it NOT being able to be done with the newer APX radios. I wouldn't even attempt it on the older ones. Especially a Phase II. Some people have no problems discussing it on "other" sites. But the truth is, there can be severe legal consequences in doing what you want to do. Especially if you're not familiar with the process. XTS series radios are one thing. And that info is out there if you search for it. I'm not trying to be rude, but it's going to be difficult to find someone willing to spoon feed you info on how to circumvent the affiliation process. The only legal way is a Unication pager or a Bendix King radio.

play it safe don't get a radio for Non-Affiliation scan you may end up in jail. from what i have been reading the G4 and G5 Pagers work great on radio system's like i said i'm going to get the G5 in a few months nothing around me does Phase-2 yet but looking to own one soon.

The KNGs cost a fortune, even more than a used Motorola. I would think that if you used a valid radio ID that you can get off of Unitrunker or DSD+, then even if the radio accidentally affiliates, it'll be a valid ID used by another real radio. But I don't want it to affiliate in the first place. Is there a certain model that will work best for this? And as far as going to "jail" goes, what if you're careful enough to prevent affiliating and the radio never transmits?

Sorry but I'm going to put an end to this part of the discussion. The program you are discussing is an internal Motorola program.

You'll have to find somewhere else to get these particular questions answered.

Then let me ask this. How do others manage to figure all this out if no one will talk about it/allow it online? Everyone always says oh there's gobs of threads explaining this and that, but when you search, there's really isn't anything that really explains it all. If not on here, can someone post a link or something where to learn this at?
