I got an old A model DX-394 a few months ago. It's just a model I always wanted and I got it pretty cheap.

I live in a condonso my antenna choices are limited buy I really like my MLA-30+ antenna. Pretty cheap and it works well.

Here's my DX-394 and my Grundig 800 off the same Green Light MLA-30+ Antenna.

Are the MLA-30’s directional?

Have you considered a Loop on Ground? It is reportedly really good at lowering the noise floor.

Am considering one for the spring.

So your antenna is indoors?

Are the MLA-30’s directional?

As active loops, these antennas are directional on LW and MW. They lose their directionality above about 2 Mhz when skywave propagation takes over.

Luckily, I have a lanai. I can't mount anything permanent so I set it up like the picture below. That position seems to work the best overall for me here.🤙🏻
