But there was no substitute to kicking back in a recliner with a good cup of coffee and thumbing through them!

Pop Comm was one of the things I enjoyed reading, while waiting in line for chow, on my ship. (Terry Pratchett's Discworld series was another source of enjoyment.)

Oh how I miss waiting for them to arrive in my mailbox, or appear at the stores. All the anticipation of reading what was new and all the how-to articles etc! You could download some and print them if you preferred. But there was no substitute to kicking back in a recliner with a good cup of coffee and thumbing through them! If you were lucky to find an list of local new frequencies to add to your scanner was awesome! I really miss those days! :)

Amen to that! Lately I've been filling my reading needs with some older SW related books. I just received a real nice copy of the WRTH Equipment Buyer's Guide from 1993. I remember going downtown to the public library and reading it often when it first came out. This and Rainer Lichte's Chance or Choice (and its follow up) are must haves for an old school shortwave guy like me.

I also prefer things in print like books/magazines but I will subscribe to The Spectrum Monitor now that I'm aware of it. Use it or lose it is very appropriate when it comes to our hobby now.

I also miss Pop Comm. Out of all the mags I subscribed to for my various hobbies, that one was the one I couldn't wait to get. I had to keep after them to get a refund on my subscription. I was a sucker for the slick, colorful snazzy advertising they had every month.

Airboss - thanks for the mention of Spectrum Monitor. I wasn't aware of it.

I agree with many of the others and miss the radio hobby magazines.

I still have a box in my basement with stacks of Popular Communication and S9 magazine. It's fun once in a while to look at those.
