JEFFERSON COUNTY - A man was injured in a firefight with SWAT officers Tuesday afternoon after he pointed a gun at paramedics.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office responded to 6288 Willow Springs Drive at around noon after a man threatened paramedics.
The original call to the fire department was for medical assistance, according to deputies.
When deputies arrived, they say the man opened the front door, pointed a gun at them and made verbal threats.
The deputies took cover and surrounded the house. When SWAT officers arrived, the man fired out of a window toward officers.
Deputies say several attempts to talk the man out of the house were unsuccessful.
The SWAT team approached the house in an armored vehicle. They say while they were deploying tear gas and smoke grenades, the man kept shooting at deputies.
Several members of the SWAT team returned fire.
When deputies got close to the house, they could see someone lying inside.
After entering the home, they say they found the man had been hit with several gunshots. He was transported to the hospital by an Air Life helicopter.
Authorities say the incident is still under investigation.
