My Pro-106 display shows a signal being received (four or five bars) while scanning (no signal being received). I've turned each bank on and off with the same result. I've also manually scrolled through each channel, no difference. Any idea why this is happening?

No idea except to take it for a ride to see if this happens away from your house.

Here is the Wiki about the scanner.:

Maybe you'll find a clue there. Good luck!

If it is receiving data from a nearby control channel on a trunked system then the signal bar will show the strength of the control channel while not transmitting any voice until a talkgroup is active.

Excellent point! (y) I don't own that scanner so it's probably normal operation for a control channel.

I have found P25, NXDN doing this also if P25 gets a weak signal out may not open the squelch. Back in the day you could filter the data.

If this wont fix it as others have stated, could be a birdie or someone with an open mic.

I have also seen were you have to turn the scanner off and back on for some reason.

I thought of that, and deleted the only trucked system I had programmed. Did not solve the problem. More of a curiosity than a problem.

I've got a PRO-106 which exhibits a similar issue, it's possible it's the same problem as the OP but there are too many variables in play to say definitively.

Here's a test that one could run: manually tune to a frequency, say, in the 772 MHz band. It must be known ahead of time the frequency tuned is clear and not in use by any transmitter in the that area. Similarly you could set up a small search range, of say 1MHz. We would expect there should be NO activity on at least SOME frequencies in this range.

In my PRO-106 the S meter is pegged FULL scale,
1) NO MATTER WHAT FREQUENCY IS TUNED (in the 700 MHz band), and
2) the S meter completely disappears if the antenna is disconnected.

For this test the regular, stock rubber antenna was used.

DIAGNOSIS: Severe RF front end intermod (the worst I've ever seen in any radio).......... No radio reset is going to fix this.

If you are using programming software, you can set the RSSI signal strength for each bar. Here are the standard settings:
BAR1=190 BAR2=230 BAR3=260 BAR4=290 BAR5=320 My scanner had high readings until I made the adjustment.

Thank you very much for the correction. I wasn't aware of the difference in the scanners. I have saved the updated info in a file for future use.
