Two Uniden BCD436HP scanners. Both have the original antennas removed and replaced with telescopic antennas as these work much better for receive. Antennas hidden behind slider for sunroof. Very happy with having these mounted up out of the way in the cab of my vehicle.Screenshot_20250317_154829_Gallery.jpg

The driver's airbag is located in the center of the steering wheel, and the front passenger's airbag is in the dashboard, on the right-hand side in front of the passenger.

No concerns there as both scanners are above both out of the way.

A couple of decades ago I was in a pretty nasty car accident. I was clipped in the rear by someone changing lanes (think "pit maneuver") which sent me spinning. When the car stopped spinning I was broadsided by a semi truck. I had an all metal HT laying on the seat next to me and it bounced around like a pinball in a machine. Fortunately, it only hit my leg and dropped into the footwell of the vehicle. Had it hit me in the head, things would have been much worse. Since then, I've learned my lesson. All radio gear gets securely mounted and, as low as possible in the vehicle. Flying debris in the passenger cabin can really take the fun out of getting in accident.

Likely OK airbag wise, but worth pointing out the side curtain airbags in each a-pillar, as well (labeled as such I am 99% sure). However, they should simply act as side curtains and not be up top.

Scanners still could come loose and become a flying object in certain situations but so can anything in the vehicle. Bottom line is each person does their install the way they see fit. However, it is not uncommon for others to "look out for you" and give suggestions for safer installs. It's happened in many threads and I've made suggestions myself before so certainly don't take it personally at all, either.

I've just retired after working over 25 years in 4 different prisons. Nothing anyone says to me is ever taken personally. And, to be honest, I could care less what anyone thinks of what I say or do at this stage in my life. I keep "me" happy, and not worry about anyone else. To each their own, as they say.

You are correct about the audio. And speaking of which;

One of the two scanners has a blown speaker. I made due with a small 5 watt one for awhile plugged into the earphone jack. That worked ok for awhile, but when driving still not the best. Plan B was launched and I ordered a 15 watt Uniden amplified speaker. Problem solved!! That speaker is LOUD!!!!! Now, I'm a happy camper.
