I feed the audio from my scanner(s) into the sound card of my desktop computer through a simple mixer. This let's me control the sound from my desk and turn it off while I am on the phone. I can also keep the level lower as I am sitting right in front of my speakers.

It would be great to have a simple PL and DPL decoder running in a window (or better yet as a small overlay on my screen) that decodes the tones on the active audio. I have tried Wintone but it is much more complecated than what I am looking for.

Does anyone know of a simple tone decoder (mostly interested in PL and DPL) that would work in this way?

Thanks

The "tone" for DPL is the same, regardless of the code, since what you hear (or what a frequency counter would hear) is the clock frequency, which is the same for all codes. As far as decoder software, there doesn't seem to be anything out there that's free.

Wintone will work for analog PL tones. I can try to send it to you if you like.
Instead of sending it, maybe you can post the link to where it can be downloaded on the net. I'm sure there are a few people interested in getting it. I'd like to take a look at the software.

Thank you for the information

Yes, DPL I guess would require a little more work. As for Wintone, by complicated I ment I was looking for a simple screen overlay or small box that would just sit and display the pl or dpl tones. I do have windtone working on a XP machine but it doesn't seem to work very well.

I was just thinking of something more like Probe and my old Pro-2006 where I can see the PL or DPL.

Since PL and DPL are sub-audible tones .. you might need to feed discriminator tapped audio to the software before it is processed by the radio.

I also have had WinTone work on Windows XP.

You may want to try WinCTCSS. Although, it is still in Beta:

Only thing I have noticed so far is that it sometimes shows up as 118.8 when my scanner is idle.

DPL has not been attempted yet, but it is on my list of things to do.

If it's getting the frequency from a table it's telling you that you have 120 Hz hum somewhere. (118.8 is the closest PL to 120.)
