Just need the sites in the areas you want to listen to and less is often better. Are you programming with software or manually because some files are available which might make it easier.

Is there information available so one could know which agencies are using which sites? If I could know that, I could easily eliminate a lot of control channels which I don't need to worry about.

Mark, That has been discussed here a few times and maybe time we begin to get a list together, but it's not as easy as saying Douglas County SO is always on Castle Rock for example it's not that easy the radios align with a site each time they key up and often times that is not the closest site to there location or the closest site for there area, ie the number of Weld County radios you see on Squaw Mtn on a daily basis.

But to begin with and maybe to begin this list need to know where you are and what agencies you want to monitor?

Thanks Jim<

I was experimenting with sites geographicaly and I live in englewood, but I would hear Englewood on the glendale and Lookout mountain and Greenwood village sites and it appears They would be on the Arapahoe Admin Site as well. So even if lookout mountain picks up a Englewood Car, In theory it should still be simulcast on the sites that cover other parts of englewood so other cars to far from Lookout mtn site can hear, So it seems if I use the Arapahoe site I would probably hear 99% of englewood traffic. I could be wrong on that Im still experimenting and it may not apply to other cities/county

Doug, no simucast occurs on DTRS.

Englewood is best off Littleton (101), Glendale (DTB) and Greenwood (Chevron)

Also appears EPD has at least a few 700MHz radios as I'm logging them tonight on sites 170 and 171.

This is incorrect. The Adams County 700 MHz sub-system is simulcast across three sites.

Do you mean to say that there are not any talk groups that are preferred ("always on") at certain sites?

Thanks Jim. I live in the Parker area. I primarily listen to Parker PD, Douglas County and Arapahoe county which I have set up as three separate systems. I often scan all the metro counties with their corresponding city PDs as well. It would be cool to know which agencies are on which sites to eliminate the number of CCs I would look for. I guess one way for me to figure this out is to input all the CCs for Denver metro sites and keep a log of the control channels that come up. Parker PD, for example will almost always be on 868.9125 and I occasionally see a 700Mhz control channel. That tells me from the RR database that I'm listening to Riley Peak and from what I can see, you would never have the same CC assigned to more than one site on the DTRS system. Is that pretty much how you would go about determining this? I guess to know for sure, you would have to monitor Parker PD (Douglas County) from multiple locations, assuming that you might not hear the Riley Peak Control Channel in other areas where Douglas County wants to put a signal.

Jim, if you could tell me if I'm on the right track here, I'll make it a point to start keeping a log, unless there's an easier way to figure this out.

Thanks much for your help. I'd be happy to contribute to a new list any way I can.

Mark, PM headed your way with some additional details and ideas.

Remember to be sure and try to attend our next quarterly scanner meeting held in Parker also, lots of suggestions, ideas and programming tips are always shared.

If you live in Parker Mark, Listen to Chevron.

It is your best bet for Douglas County and the entire south metro area

I am not exactly sure what if we are all on the same track here-

I regularly listen to Chevron, Golden, and Smokey hill at the same time on different radios, and you will here the same traffic on all three of those sites and probably others too.

Englwood, or any other agency can be monitoried on more than one site at the same time. It all depends what tower a radio affiliates to. i.e., that night, a radio had to have been affiliated to Lookout, and the Arapahoe site and thats why you heard the same TG on two different sites

That is exactly right. That is how Jefferson County snowcat wiped out the Springfield tower in Baca county durning the blizzard last year. They had their radios still set on their home talk groups and dragged them down there. Jeffco is very busy and with all the rest of the agencies assisting, they quickly busied out the 3 channel Springfield site.

Yes, I've noticed that too. Cool avatar, by the way. My wife and I got our weather spotter credentials after attending a NWS class a few months ago.
