I just got my Pro-97 on Saturday, so I'm still learning trunk scanning. I'm using Win97 to program my scanner and I'm learning it pretty easily. I can't imagine trying to program it without software.
At first, I was trying to guess what sites to use to hear what I want, but then I decided to use all 15 sites for King County, since I'm closing the banks so that I only hear the talkgroups that I want to hear, I figure I'll hear them whenever I hear them. I'm guessing that I might miss something since I figure that the scanner is scanning all the freqs for all the sites, but if it stops on one of the talkgroups, I'd be missing something else anyway.
I have noticed that for certain talkgroups, and most stuff in general, I'm getting transmissions from just one of the sites, and for the rest, from a different site, for a total of 2 out of 15 sites.
My first question would be, should I just use those 2 sites instead of all 15? Does it really matter as long as I'm hearing what I want to hear? Would it save the scanner any time in scanning? Would I miss anything any less? Ok, that was quite a few questions.
Incase it helps, here's what I have programmed so far in my scanner.
Bank 0 - Auburn, Enumclaw, Federal Way, Kent, Des Moines, Tukwilla, and Renton PD talkgroups
It seems that I only catch these on McDonald Mountain site. I don't think I've ever caught them from a different site, but if I did, it would probably be KC/VC 04.
Bank 1 - King County Sheriffs Office, all talkgroups
Catch them on either McDonald Mountain or KC/VC 04 depending on what talkgroup is talking.
Bank 2 - WSP and some other stuff - This bank is conventional
What amazes me on this bank is that I'm picking up stuff from the coast and Kitsap/Mason County. Didn't think I would be able to.
Bank 3 - Seattle PD, all talk groups, plus some court and jail talkgroups for Seattle and KC.
Bank 4 - Pretty much every fire talkgroup for Seattle and South KC
That's it so far. I'm going to make a seperate file for Seafair which will include Seattle PD and then all of the freqs for the airshow itself once they have all the participants of the airshow finalized so I know who is performing. I figure I'll put each participant in a different bank so when they are performing, I can just scan that bank and hear them.
