I took the basic SKYWARN spotter class in Great Barrington, MA. I got my certification online by email but I didnt get an ID, any ideas how to get one or why I didnt? I also am a amateur radio technician.

When did they stop doing that? And why?

Probably money. Somebody has to correlate individuals with numbers and maintain the data. Much cheaper to give out a certificate and be done with it.

Took mine a few years ago too through NWS-Albany. I remember the instructor told us right out that they don't give out ID numbers anymore. Which net do you use down in Canaan?

So then how do they know which spotter the weather info came from without ID numbers? Or do they just say "this weather report came in from a person in this area" ?

I took it a few months ago out of NWS Seattle. We all still get identifiers. I guess it's up to the individual offices.

Maybe in your area, but other offices do issue ID numbers, as mine does. However, they do not issue ID cards.

After taking the class, you usually still have to register with the NWS office in order to receive your ID number.

145.270 in Great Barrington and also 147.240 in Torrington all 2-meters. plus other ones further in CT, NY, and MA
