OK, one of my wishes....

The trend in mobile scanners seems to be 'get bigger' The modern auto has very few places for a mobile install any more. I loved my Pro2026/Uniden760 mobiles. If they can stuff all of that digital/trunking stuff into a 330/396 case, why not a small form factor mobile, something around 1.5 inches tall, 4-5 inches wide and 4 inches deep. Just use the basic design of the hand helds, beef up the audio, filter the 12v dc, etc. It would be small enough that you might even be able to mount it above the rearview mirror (radar detector style)

the DIN size of the 2096/bcd996 etc. only is handy if you have a DIN sized hole some where. The last two generations of mobiles have required me to reconfigure/design my radio stack, they seem to grow wider w/ each generation.

anyone else want a SMALL mobile????

The only beef I had with doing a permanent ISO mount of my 996 was there did not seem to be any need to make the plastic faceplate bigger than the rest of the chassis. It just prevents you from putting it out flush with the factory radio above it. It had to be set back a bit because the faceplate is a bit bigger than and ISO hole. There was plenty of room in back for GPS/Power hook-up etc.

Yes, the 350c is a really good, small type scanner if you don't need "trunking or digital", just "conventional" scanning. It has loud(if you need it) and really good sound!

If I did not need trunking and digital, this would be my "main" scanner!

Yes, 50 channels is all! Except for the preprogramed stuff, which in my experience, is not very helpful!

Let's try this again... I wasn't clear enough the first time.

I have several conventional scanners that are small. What I'd like is a small trunking/digital scanner that is a mobile. I have both the 330 & 396, a 996 , several 2067's, and a 2096. The mobiles are all relatively large, I have a stereo in the only DIN sized hole in the vehicle. As I said originally, if they can put all that into a 330/396 package, why do the equivalent mobile's have to be so big. If you open them up, there is a lot of empty space inside. Buying a remote (for the uniden) is an extra expense, plus I still have to find space for the radio . I used to think the old Motorola / GE control heads were big, but the lastest trunking mobiles make them look positively small.....

I restate my original question, why doesn't someone have a compact trunking mobile????
