Confirmed Updates for Smithfield RI Fire Department: County is Providence. They are now using a P25 Digital system, (NOT RISCON)

Frequency Type Tone/TG Notes
154.415 R = P25 NAC343 F1 Dispatch
153.9275 R = P25 NAC343 F2 Secondary Dispatch
154.3400 R = Analog PL 203.5 F3 Fireground (Analog) NAC293
154.4000 R= Analog PL 203.5 F4 Fireground (Analog) NAC293

Smithfield Fire will use the RISCON TG for mutual aid.

The above info was supplied from the Chief of the department and permission given to share.

I wonder why they decided to build their own P25 system and not use RISCON. Completely out of curiosity from me vantage point - I have no clue what the advantages/disadvantages would be of building your own system compared with joining RISCON. I would imagine building their own system would cost more, but again, I don't know.

They just converted all their existing analog VHF sites to P25. Interestingly, their VHF analog is also still in service.......

I occasionally hear Smithfield fire on the RISCON system on talk group 1648 but what I hear is testing of signal quality Is it possible that they may be considering switching over to RISCON in the future

Why wouldn't they just completely switch over to RISCON?
