Anyone know of any software that would decode SMS/Text messages on vhf freqs?

Are you talking FLEX or POCSAG or something else? You can try PDW, but again it depends on mode being used.
Not sure what protocol as I have not located that info yet.

I am not seeing anything that relates to vhf or sms. Most of what comes up relates to storage solutions or data management.
The UM725GBT is the first marine radio to offer Bluetooth wireless text messaging using your smart phone to text with a similarly capable marine VHF radio. Reading the manual it looks like text/sms is misleading.
From the manual...
The DSC standard dedicates a VHF channel—channel 70—to digital transmissions only. Because digital transmissions require less bandwidth than voice transmissions, channel 70 avoids the problems of busy voice channels. The radio uses channel 70 to transmit your MMSI number to the other station along with a voice channel.
The mmsi thing on ch70 has been around for a while I have a radio that’s at least 6 years old and it has that.

So the VDSMS service is only allowed on certain maritime freqs. I did run across a decoder on github but can't find the bookmark. After dinner is going to be sort the 600 bookmarks.
