• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi Scanner Buffs:

I have a BC780XLT and monitor an EDACS system in Ontario. Is there any software available (hopefully free) that would allow me to glean radio IDs etc. using my PC and a USB port connection?

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks and happy scanning! :D

780 Software

:D

The only way I know of for USB to program a 780 is ARC780 software and USB kit w/ driver software. ScannerMaster is one dealer for that. www.scannermaster.com or search for ARC780 Software for sights and more info. I recently saw the USB kit on ARC780 creator's website.

I use ARC780 for programming and storing files for my 780. Works great.

I believe if you trunk in "Search" mode, you should see the talk-group numbers appear when someone transmits.

Best Regards,
Julian

Though not free, both of these have programming 'kits' for lack of a better term that utilizes their own USB connections and software. BuTel's ARC780 and Scan Control both have this capability.

The URLs are:

http://www.butel.nl

ARC780 is sold through Scanner Master; I don't know about their USB kits, though

ARC780 w/ USB

:)

Just visited the Butel site.

ARC780 - USB is available in CD-Rom form for $69.95

ARC780 - USB download version $59.95

Both of the above include the USB driver and cable.
I just found these prices on Butel's site which I see folks
have just sent.

ARC780 for programming and storing files is worth every penny.

Good luck and enjoy!

Take care,
Julian

Hey guys. I'm kinda new to this sort of stuff, but i found a computer program for the BC 780 XLT. It seems to be working fine for me. Stop by www.bc780xlt.net and take a look for yourself. Its much, much less expensive than other available programs.

Happy scanning.

Has anyone used this Scanpro software for the BC-780? Any comments on it? From the description it sounds pretty neat. Thanks.

I wouldn't touch the ScanPro stuff with a 100 foot pole

Even the MT review they mention on their website said that there were some issues with keeping up with lookups. From everything I've read about 780 software, ARC780 is the way to go. You can even get support from Gommert Buysen (the author) via email, something I don't think you can say about the ScanPro brand (though that might have changed since I did the reviews of their 895 and 245 software - I got good support then, but I've heard exactly the opposite later...)

ARC780 is a great way to program a 780. I have had great success with it. Easy to use and as others have written.....the support, if needed is excellent.
