• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Like to make some pointers to all on the KPG D1, D2, and D3 Licenses.
It is recommended by Kenwood, not to use a mac. Doing so you are at your own free will. This software is designed for Windows only.

That out of the way, Anyone who has a REGULAR COPY OF THE SOFTWARE, please make a note on what your machine ID is;
Open License management Client, go to SETUP, GENERAL, DEVICE ID. Click on copy, and save it to a text file where you can
pull it up should there EVER be a pc/laptop/HDD failure. This will be needed to send to Kenwood Tech Support.
You will also need the copy of your ORIGINAL EMAIL WITH THE LICENSE KEY.

In the event you have a hard drive or motherboard failure, contact your dealer that you purchased the software from.
They will contact KWD_TS with your information, to begin the license refresh. There is NO DEADLINE TIME ON THIS
PROCESS!
On the new HDD or PC, reinstall the KPT-300, D? and the KFL programs.
Once you have installed the KPT-300 (LMC) go into the setup, general, device ID, copy that number and submit to your dealer along
with the OLD Device ID, and the original email with the D software key.
Your dealer will contact you when all information has been submitted to Tech Support for refresh.

WIDE BAND LICENSE KEYS (authorized uses) Please understand this:
WIDE BAND KEYS WILL NOT BE REVIVED! PER KENWOOD.
If you think you are going to have a hdd failure or a motherboard going south,
open License Mgmt and CANCEL OUT THE LICENSE and export it off of that PC immediately.

If you lose it before you cancel the license, there is nothing that can be done to undo this.
You will have to re-purchase a wide band license. Even dealers have the same issue, they will
not renew a wide band license. One shot deal. Kenwood says buy a regular license and only
use the wide band when needed, otherwise turn it off, and put it away till you need it again.

Record your machine ID and save it somewhere whenever you update your pc or HDD.

Chow for now.

This is why I won't waste my time with Kenwood products that rely on this utter garbage software. Even MSI isn't this difficult. APX CPS looks like a masterpiece compared to this nonsense. Kenwood obviously lives in an I.T. heaven where spinning disks never fail, SSDs never get corrupted, and motherboards live forever.
Shame too, because I love my VP-5430, and Armada is AMAZING software and doesn't take 10TB of hard disk space or an i7 to run, and none of this license key nonsense. Hey JVC Kenwood, did you hire the sales prevention team from your competitor on this one?

I don't know if I would go as far as MTS did but it does seem like Kenwood could use some help in the software department. A lot of help. I read this stuff and just shake my head. Sad they are so shortsighted.

Have to ask....

Even in Canada? Canada is where many legaly licensed wideband frequencies above 150Mhz are still valid?

Kenwood Canada does not sell software outside of dealers. I know some who have it, but the wide band license that is issued,
the clause states IT WILL NOT BE REFRESHED.

So I have to say no, wide band D licenses will not be renewed. You will have to purchase another license.
This from the Manager who issues the wide band licenses.

Here and there
I personally like Kenwood and the software is very option filled with what one wants to do.

It reminds me of APX CPS with curve but easily figured out if you have used a lot of cps before.

I can see why they went this extent with the license keys, and verification processes.

They are avoiding the losses Motorola has with the Astro line, and APX line with added features not paid for.

I eventually seeing Motorola following suit with similiar process.

I had an HDD that was full. I'm glad I reached out to Evans to cancel the software before I just saved an image of the HDD. My plan was to blow the image into a new SSD. Luckily I canceled the software and enabled it again once the image was good on the new SSD. I did pull my Kenwood out of service as I don't feel comfortable losing software due to an unforeseen computer issue. Went back to Motorola, so my NX5800 will be for sale shortly. It's a shame too as I really liked the radio.

With proper training, yes, one can export out the license, and pass to another.

Remember, I said wide band keys.
Regular license keys can be refreshed.
Been up front about it like you said.

When you purchase the software from a dealer, do they have to set it up? I am under the impression the software file and license is sent to you but my local dealer says I have to bring in my desktop computer for them to put it on and license it? Which is quite aggravating and makes me wonder how I am to get updates in the future. Is this the norm? We carry motorola normally and never had this inconvenience. (not trying to hijack the thread, just made sense to put it on the thread discussing the software.)

You should be able to install it yourself. @kd4efm can confirm but I am 99% sure you can just do it yourself.

Yes, you can install it yourself.

The dealer will send you the license key file. You'll need KPT-300, the license control software, as well as the KPG-D# software.

Not sure why the dealer is telling you they need to install it for you.

Kenwood doesn't send out update CD's like Motorola does. Getting software updates will require working with your dealer. They currently do not have a system to send out updates to end users.

You need to find a dealer you can work with.

If you are confident enough, you can do it yourself. That sounds like they think they loose control of how you use it.

Need help I can assist.
