You have got to be kidding  That list has got some real junk on it; for example, the Hurricane Hunter HF net was abandoned years ago when Andrew destroyed the antenna system.

A much more accurate list can be found here:

Yes, propagation has been absolutely horrendous. Trying to hear the Hurricane net on 14325 has been very very difficult.

73s and good hunting...Mike

14.265 USB is very active with Health and Welfare-related activity resulting from Hurricane Frances...

i've been relaying 14.325 USB on the internet for the past 3 days until propagation went into the toilet, so i've switched down to 14.265 for the time being.

(weird thing i heard this morning was some guy out of Ingleside, TX assuming Hurricane Net Control when propagation went weird! he controlled the Net for several hours...)

USB and LSB are components of Amplitude Modulation.
When an AM transmitter is keyed up it generates a carrier frequency of the desired frequency.
When speech is added it modulates the carrier wave up to 100%.
When modulation occurs two identical sidebands are created, upper and lower. These sidebands contain the same modulated information.
SSB is an enhanced form of amplitude modulation.
The carrier is supressed in the transmitter since it is not really needed and the opposite sideband is filtered out.
By doing this all of the available transmitter power can be concentrated in the one sideband. "BETTER TRANSMISSION"
At the receive end, the carrier must be reinserted in order to make the reception intelligible.
A Beat Frequency Oscillator ( BFO ) is used to reinsert the carrier at the same frequency as that of the transmitter that originated the message.
This control is also known as a clairifier control.
As you adjust the clairifier and it comes closer to the original transmit frequency the reception becomes clear.
Hope this helped!

You would have to have the capability to switch the mode to USB or LSB and then use the BFO to clear up the signal.
If you have the BFO on during AM operation it will only squeal as you adjust it.
Usually the BFO automatically switches on when you change the mode to SSB.
