Some NJ Transit Questions

So here goes:

-Are there any NJ Transit North trunked system repeaters in Monmouth County?..if so where?
-As far as police comms go what is more active, the truncked system or the 160.830 frequency?
-Are there any other relevent NJ Transit police frequencies relevent to the North Jersey Coast Line besides 160.830?

All in all i just need a little clearing up on how NJ Transit works. Any input would be great.

As far as I know they use the VHF repeaters exclusively, I've never heard them on the trunked system but the incident operations talk group can get interesting at times.

Not police but there are operations such as:
161.235 road (Bayhead running track)
161.475 signal department
161.145 power dispatcher
160.440 MoW

Check the RR New Jersey database for a complete listing of NJT frequencies. The FCC database also list the following non AAR allocated frequencies assigned to N.J. Transit.

Thanks for the input all! I have most of the conventiol nj transit frequencies already. I guess now my only question is why i cannot recieve the nj transit north truncked system in my area (belmar, NJ). I am not suprised though...it seems like unless your trying to listen to local police your out of luck here. Even with a yagi i find it hard to monitor the NJSP system!

You are most likely being blocked by Telegraph Hill near the GSP exit 114. That is a 350' high hill.

You would have to be more specific in your question.

If you are referring to the NJSP 800Mhz trunking system that is probably one of the sites they use but they have many sites so you would have to check the RR DB to find the list of sites and frequencies and talk groups.

Not police but there are operations such as:
161.235 road (Bayhead running track)
161.475 signal department

If the officer trying to talk is in a bad spot, among other things, they will on occasion go to the TRS.

These four frequencies are known as the SPEN frequencies in NJ. The list is as follows
SPEN 1-154.6800 for broadcasts, BOLOs, major street
SPEN 2-155.4750 is the nation polioce channel
SPEN 3-154.7250 is a common mobile channel but it's
SPEN 4 153/7850 is a common between,PD,FD,EMS and OEM

Cassidy, if your antenna is pointed at Holmdel and you receive the NJSP I don't see why you don't hear NJT being at the same location. Neither are strong here but at least I can hear them, maybe something not quite right with your antenna and/or coax?

EJM, are you sure of that? Buses and light rail share the trunked system, heavy rail does not. I guess it depends on what you call "trains".

FLRAILMAN, what is 452.9125 used for? It's a 2W mobile frequency and for Conrail 1W paired with 457.9125 which is very odd, normally a 5MHz split will have a high power base of some sort on the bottom and a number of low power mobiles on top, a repeater pair.

Yeah i am just as puzzled. My antenna is dead on aimed at the antenna tower. I get NJSP crystal clear most of the time, but even then the NJT system is SILENT. My antenna is the wilson 800MHz yagi, brand new with 10ft of LMR-400 Coax running to my scanner. Signal loss is not a factor here. Can anyone shed any light?

kb2vxa, the contact address on the FCC license is for NJ Transit in Maplewood, which is Hq.'s for the Bus division. The Hq.'s for the Trains is in Newark. When I say Trains, I mean Morris & Essex line, Boonton line, etc.

Jaymatt1978, thanks for clearing that up, except for the NLEEC frequency: 155.475 MHz, It appeared to me that NJTPD had some hidden frequencies they didn't want the public to be aware of. KBZVXA the 453.6125 MHz frequency appears to assigned to the new (To me at least) Secaucus Transfer Station, for what? I have no idea, the FCC database just shows the alloctated frequency & location, very rarely will you see an assignment in the database, same for the other systemwide frequencies, maybe a local can plug them in a scanner & enlighten us.

That UHF channel is licensed as a possible repeater, but what gets me is the the active date goes back to 2003 - that pre-dates the creation of the Secaucus station...

I visited the construction site back in the Fall of '98, it was a long way from completion but superstructure work was well underway. According to Wikipedia (is there anything it doesn't have an article for?) the station became operational on 12/15/03. Time flies...

With reference to 452.9125/457.9125, I was guessing end-of-train devices but the wiki here lists it as commonly for railroad telemetry. Frequently Asked Frequencies at StrongSignals has some similar information on that frequency range.

Jim, thanks for the info, I am coming north next month to ride AMTRAKS Acela from DC to Beantown, maybe I'll stay an extra day or two & head out to Secaucus with a portable & sniff around, That's one of the stations I've yet to check out since I relocated from the Big Apple to Florida. Somebody local should have figured that frequency out by now though. I don't think there is a subject on this planet that Wikipedia doesn't cover?
