I just got a small piece of audio from the Space Shuttle.

At approx. 9:26 into the flight I heard on 259.700 AM, "....not required".

Thats the only thing I have heard. Pretty exciting catching my first space shuttle transmission.

I heard it very clear here in far Southwest Virginia, 25 miles NE of Bristol VA/TN.

Heard everything from "Negative return" to ET separation and "OMS 1 not required" (Transmission was breaking up by that point)

Was listening on a Uniden BR-330T handheld with a Grove telescoping whip antenna and a GRE super amplifier

Heard the Navy SRB recovery ships on 5711 USB before, during, and after the launch, including the relay of the lat/lon locations of SRBs 1 and 2 after they splashed down.

Does anyone have the link to the tracks that the shuttle takes for takeoff? I can't find a link on the nasa website for the takeoff paths.....only the landing tracks.

Spectacular comms reception this time ! really strong signal here on the NC coast...just using back of set whip indoors on ground floor and heard about 9 really strong transmissons and then 3 weak one's as they exited up the NE.....rattled the speaker for the most part ! great thrill as always.....

Listened most of the day at several locals on Donner Pass in California on 147.405. Listening right now in my house with an RH77CA on a Pro-162 in Sacramento. First time I've ever listened to a whole launch sequence. Fantastic!

I am a newbie to the scanner ways, only got mine for christmas from my wife

i am watching the nasa channel right now... apparently they have a test aircraft that is currently taking off/flying around/landing the same path the shuttle will be and they input those environmental variables into the shuttle sim...

pretty neat...

The test aircraft is just set up to simulate the shuttle on reentry, so they fly the same path the shuttle will take and see how it handles. They don't input that into any sort of computer sim.
