Comms from space until about 3:30 Steve. At that point, they signed off for the night and said they would be back in the morning. Mission control was on for awhile, then a press conference. Very clear listening, I can't wait to tune in in the morning.

I've been listening in on that when I can. Sounds like the local repeater action kicks up again when the rebroadcast is not being streamed. I also heard a recording that the local repeater traffic can override that rebroadcast at anytime. But it's cool when it's on!

Wow. I started monitoring this freq today, and all I can say is Wow!
I heard some really cool communication between the ISS, Astronauts (both Russian and American) and Control.

One astronaut was talking about the items that he'd brought into space with him ... an American flag from a buddy in Iraq, a Firefighters badge and other stuff.

They also discussed the space walk to repair some minor damage on the orbiter's belly.

Thanks for this freq guys! This has been one of the coolest things I've ever listened to!

Did you guys ever listen to 143.625 or 145.550 when the MIR still existed?
It was almost an every night thing to hear them talking. I remember one
guy giving a play by play running description to someone about what it looked like to fly over the US from West to East at 17,000 MPH.

He started with the California coast approaching then a few moments later talked about the midwest and a few minutes later Florida. It was at night and he was referencing city lights. It was one of the neatest things I ever heard.

I could almost see it as he described it.

Another Possible Problem

SPACE CENTER, Houston - With a gentle tug of his gloved right hand, Discovery astronaut Stephen Robinson removed two worrisome pieces of filler material from the shuttle's belly Wednesday in an unprecedented space repair job that drew a big sigh of relief from
NASA. But he may have to go out again to fix yet another trouble spot.

Robinson was barely back inside the shuttle and out of his spacesuit when Mission Control informed the crew there was a chance that a fourth spacewalk might be needed Friday to deal with a torn thermal blanket below a cockpit window.

The concern is that a 20-inch section of the blanket could rip away during re-entry, whip backward and slam into the shuttle, perhaps causing grave damage. Engineers expect to know by Thursday evening whether the danger is real and whether any blanket trimming is required.
