I got a sds200 and a bcd536hb uniden reversed the wires in the plug !the tip is GROUND AND THE BASE AND MIDDLE RING IS right and left together this way you heare both sides in your headphones and speaker ! REVERS THEM !!!!! , and you be ok just make a special cable ,special if you have a grounded antenna or a amplifide speaker , just a other idea take one cable and cut it , CONNECT THE GROUND (shieldet wire )TO THE RED AND WHITE WIRE

Unless I'm missing the point... wouldn't it be easier to buy a "stereo to mono" jack and just plug you headphones or speaker into it?

I run my SDS200 through an Isolation Transformer to powered PC speakers. Works great!

Lots of people here have had good luck with it and it's not too expensive.

That doesn't address the ground loop issue, and the headphone jack is designed to have stereo headphones plugged in. A mono converter will probably just short the audio out entirely.

This is 100% incorrect. None of the outputs are grounds. Uniden uses push-pull mono audio amplifiers, so one output is the inverse of the other. Neither output is grounded, and connecting any output to ground will short it out. That is bad for the amplifier.

One output is connected to the tip and ring of the stereo plug, and the other is connected to the sleeve. That ensures the same signal is sent to both sides of the headphones/earbuds.

hi there ,well it works for me using a amplifier and a power supply in the uniden unit the base of the plug is right and left channel and the tip is sort of ground but if you get a amp only use the left and right channel witch in case of the uniden is the base of a mono plug otherwise it shorten the the plug ,try it i did and it works ,and no humm or othere noices ,the reversed the shield of the plug and r/l channel so you can heare 2 channel ,if you use a groundet antenna then the whole unit is groundet and you can NOT use the tip as ground it will shorten ,so again if you use a groundet antenna or amplifire just use the base of the plug in the uniden unit ,it works i tryd it .

Again, you do not know what you are talking about, You are wrong. The output is not stereo, it is dual mono, connected to both the L and R earbuds so you hear the same signal in both sides. One amplifier output is connected to the sleeve (the common terminal going to both earbuds), and the other is connected to both the tip and ring (which go separately to the L and R earbuds respectively).

There is no such thing as a "sort of ground". None of the outputs are at ground potential, and grounding any of the connections shorts out one of the amplifier outputs. The same is true if you insert a mono plug into the headphone jack; you short out one of the amplifier outputs, which causes audio artifacts and problems. What you are doing is bad for your scanner, does not output full volume, and risks damaging the audio amplifier.
