If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Spectra Systems 9000 functions on DTMF keys

Hi All,

I have a conventional high power VHF Spectra with the Systems 9000 head. T83FWA7HA9AK is the ID No.

I've assigned some functions to the numeric keys, such as zone up and zone down.

But oddly, when I go to use the same keys as DTMF via the scratchpad Phone function, any key I have assigned to a function is not available to enter a number. For example, if the "1" button is assigned to Zone Up, then I cannot enter any number with a "1" in it.

This is totally different from my other Spectra units with the A7 head (I think that's the correct nomenclature -- the head with the DTMF buttons but not the Systems 9k. RSS says it is "Enhanced"). On my other Spectra units, I can program functions to the numeric keys and I can still use those keys to enter DTMF digits.

Additional button question, I can't seem to assign a button to read the RSSI.

My RSS is version R06.00.05.

Thanks for any advice,

This was also my experience with the analog Spectra and the A9 head. I never found a way around it.
