Spread Spectrum Frequencies

Hello, I am new to scanning and am interested in how you can monitor spread spectrum frequencies, I read an article in a scanning magazine that sort of touched on the subject but involved a lot of special equipment and expertise. I have an Icom R-20 and R-3 that have the ability to do sweeps but so far haven't heard much. Any suggestions?

That is totally dependent on the system / manufacturer. Different brands of cordless phones in the same band don't even follow the exact same spec.

I was interested in military monitoring of spread spectrum, too hard though, thanks anyway....

There are different kids of Spread Spectrum. The most popular are Frequency Hopping, which will actual change freqs. But the other is Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum(DSSS) which spreads the signals over a set bandwidth. This is popular with CDMA cellphones. I know of no scanner that will handle either one of these modes.
