From the Aqua Pennsylvania website:
BOIL ORDER ISSUED IN SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP and SWARTHMORE AND MORTON TOWNSHIPS
Due to a main break at Aqua Pennsylvania’s Crum Creek Treatment Plant, Aqua is advising customers in Swarthmore and Morton boroughs and Springfield Township, Delaware County, to boil their water until further notice.
Water used for cooking or other purposes where water might be ingested, such as brushing teeth, washing vegetables or washing dishes by hand, should be boiled at a full boil for one minute. It's safe to shower with this water.
The main break occurred earlier this morning in a 24-inch main at the Crum Creek facility. As a result, some muddy water got into the distribution center. The plant was taken offline and the distribution system in the vicinity of the plant is being flushed. The plant is expected to go online late this afternoon.
Water samples are being collected, however, due to the length of time needed to complete the laboratory tests; Aqua expects the boil water advisory to be in effect until late Tuesday afternoon at the earliest.
Aqua is working with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection Agency in response to the main break. Aqua will notify customers when the boil water advisory has been lifted.
