Sprint's business practices are one reason why they are failing I think. I once owned a Sprint cell phone. First they talk you into these really nice deals with 2 year contracts. They charge way too much for what you get, will charge you 250 per phone for either not paying and they shut you off or if you choose to terminate the contract and have it shut off. I guess most cell phone companies do that as well, I have had an account with Alltell for the last two years now and am fairly pleased with them. My account only cost me 40.00 a month rountinely, as I am not a big cell phone user, just for important stuff or emergencies. My son didn't listen to me and took out a contract with them a few months ago and now HE'S having some of the same problems I had, and is on the hook this month for about 200.00. I for one will never go back to Sprint.

Sounds like your son didn't take the time to understand what his plan had included, or chose to be irresponsible and then wants to whine about it. I've had Sprint 10 years and have had no problems and no surprises with my billing. I understand the terms and have a plan appropriate for my usage needs. Simple as that. It's amazing how taking an extra 15 minutes to understand what you are getting in the beginning can save you hours of headaches later.
As to the ETF's, all cell carriers have them currently. There is legislation out there that is trying to get those rates under control since it's a total sham that you'll have to pay the whole fee (up to $150 in some cases) even if you cancel your service two days before the contract is up.
FWIW, I tried Verizon a few years back and it was a nightmare. Had a "ghost account" in addition to my regular that I never got a bill for but that Verizon was threatening to send to collections since I never paid on it.
