• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

My RLN1015D has stopped bootstrapping my radios.
I am able to read and write a codeplug using the SRIB, but when trying to write a codeplug through Tools > Depot > Write Codeplug, it asks me to turn the radio on and off, then I get the failed to bootstrap radio error. The radio doesn't go into bootstrap mode.. just turns on normally.
I'm using Windows 7 on a Toshiba Satellite Pro L300, USB to serial adaptor (which has worked fine for ages), RLN1015D SRIB and RKN4035A XTS3000 flash cable. Depot version is R05.02.02 from W9CR.

Does anyone have an idea on what's gone wrong?

We do not discuss that software here.
Yes you have software that you are not allowed to own.
Not sure about in the UK but in the US you are not allowed to own it.

Ah, Sorry. I thought as it was EOL a while ago, Motorola don't care about that anymore.
I'm not wanting assistance on the software, just my SRIB is all.

I am not going to scold you since your question had nothing to do with Depot, and it isn't my job to police things I don't approve of.

You need to troubleshoot. No matter how "reliable and solid" your setup has been in the past. For this you need to ditch the USB adapter. No matter how good the adapter, or how many anecdotal instances you can point at, the sRIB was NOT designed to be used with it.

Find a computer, or someone who has one with a real serial port. Check the sRIB functionality. If it again fails, it could be anything inside and depending on your skill level easy to repair, or impossible. If it works, then you know there may be something wrong with your computer, your settings, your adapter, or a multitude of other things. You are using a 30-year-old piece of hardware, on an OS that long been out of the mainstream and out of support for some time.

Dealing with the rib only double check speed, bits, and parity settings also if I remember correctly in the port settings on the PC is a slider setting to make changes to the urt settings try to slow that down. I can remember back in the old days using usb having to do that.
