From what I'm seeing the ST-2 appears to be for FM radio station reception, not for UHF and 800Mhz reception.
Disregard above, was looking at the wrong brand of ST-2 antenna.

If you want a top of the line antenna check out the OmniX

Still have a st-2 and it rocked on vhf/uhf and did fairly well for me on 800mhz.

Read reviews on it and decide for yourself. I consider it a great antenna.

The ST-2 is a great scanner antenna but has been out of production for 2 decades or more. If you have one there is a good bet that the plastic bits are getting brittle so be aware of that.

The Omni-X as mentioned is a worthy alternative and is new production. I have had both on the same mount and cable and the performance has been pretty much the same.

If you remember the guy that was going to start producing his version of the st-2, the plans are here in the forum. Has detailed plans for using 1/4 plexi pieces out to certain sizes and the epoxied together to replicate those blue ones. I plan on reconstructing mine one day as they are very brittle.

Here is the pdf for the insulators.

I have the opportunity to get an ST-2. Is it worth me chasing this?...
It might be worth chasing but you didn't mention if this was a brand-new or used ST-2 antenna and what your buying price was. Of course new-in-the-box is the preferred option as the antenna and its plastic insulators would not have been exposed to the weather and the sun's UV rays.

For some perspective, I saw 2 of these antennas sell recently on eBay. One new antenna sold at auction for $76 with 12 bids and the other used antenna sold at auction for $79 with 2 bids but it had been re-listed at least 3 times before it finally sold.

I have the opportunity to get an ST-2. Is it worth me chasing this? I will be monitoring UHF and 800mhz.
In particular around 800-900 MHz my ST2 antennas beat the pants off of my discone, but that's no surprise there. The ST2 works fine on UHF as well. With that in mind, I don't use my ST2 with my scanners at the moment.

Here is what I use:
1. Diamond Discone 130NJ or something like that
2. 800-900 MHz antenna ( This offers more gain )
3. I use a diplexer to connect the two and feed my radios.

I presume the 800 MHz signal you wish to monitor is weak? If it's strong, don't buy anything. If you cannot hear the 800 MHz signal now...you may not hear it with an antenna upgrade.
