Hi,

I original posted this in the New User forum but it was suggested I post here.

I was wondering if someone could help me out in choosing a scanner.
Here's what I THINK I know, please correct me if I'm wrong.

I live near St. Catharines, near the fonthill site. From what I understand, it's possible to get:
Fire (Niagara Region)
EMS (Niagara Region)
Bell Fleetnet - Ontario Provincial Government Zone 1 (OPP is a must)
- I realize I can't get NRP.

So my first question is, is the above correct?
The second question:
I'm going to talk about Uniden models since that's what I'm most familiar with. Do I need to get a digital receiver (BCD996XT or BCD396XT)? Or would a model such as the BC346XT do?

Any help is appreciated.

it appears that some of the niagara county fire channels are P25 digital. also if you want to be able to recieve OPP, you will definitely have to go with one of the digital scanners you mentioned above.

the 396XT is a great reciever if you are constantly moving locations and the 996XT is good for in the house and Possibly (don't quote me on this) good in the car. Unfortunatly, you have to fork out the extra cash if you want any one of these scanners

I should of asked this in my original post but does anyone know a place (in the St. Catharines area) where I can purchase one of these scanners?

Thanks

Closest place for you is Radio Shack in Buffalo or Amherst, NY... probably the cheapest too (for Radio Shack/GRE Brands). If you want Uniden and cant mail order and want to overpay you can head to Radio World or Durham Radio in Toronto/Whitby.
