Yesterday, the Oklahoma State Senate approved the "Matthew S. Evans, Jeff Rominger Act."

Written by Senator Kenneth Corn, the act calls for an "800 MHZ Statewide Emergency Communication System." The entire press release is linked here.

Hmmmm.
The senator has come up with a unique idea all his own.

Wonder where he's getting the money.

wow. They sure are getting alot of mileage out of the Evans and Rominger incident ..

Corn also said eventually the entire nation will be on an 800 MHZ system and recently, the federal 911 Commission said building these statewide emergency communication systems should be top priority for homeland security officials throughout the nation.
Except for the ones on 700 MHz .. doh!

How will this effect OKC's system??
I would suspect that OKC system is going to be around for quite a while. :)

Since the State of Oklahoma already has trunked system *partially* in place, all one would need to do is throw more money at it to finish building it out to cover the entire state.

Corn pointed out that Oklahoma should take the lead in becoming one of the first states in the nation to implement this life saving communication system.
Someone needs to get this guy an RR.com memebership so he can see what Colorado is doing! :D

If they receive enough money, they might overhaul the system to ASTRO 6.3 or higher and make it a true P-25 TRS. How old are the sites in the current system? I know that Motorola refuses to support or manufacture analog trunking components and systems after 2009. Therefore, it would make the most sense to start moving towards a true P-25 TRS. However, I hope they don't decide to follow the OKC example and turn the "new" system into a statewide ProVoice TRS like the state of Florida's

I sure wonder who that is. Been around a long time never heard of that agency.

Yes I am from Colorado and our system is great except for some times poor coverage as 800 does not travel as well as VHF or UHF but it is a large area linked together and is a great concept. Now. as for the 700 mhz. Colorado is supposedly migrating some of their towers over to 700 which is OK. because the Motorola Astro XTS 2500 radios and etc are 700/800 dual band. they will also do 700 so even the ones that are 700 are supposed to work with the system. I would like to see OK do that we Do some fire/ems mutual aid with Cimmaron County OK and they are on VHF / UHF and Baca County where I am from is on 800 Type I Analog and 800 Digital P-25 both. and we can not talk to them. so if OK would get 800 statewide it would be great. for Colorado and Oklahoma to Mutual aid on things with. Hope to see you all 800 digital statewide.

What an empty, useless, and quite frankly - stupid bill. If I were the families of these officers, I would be angry that they attached their names to this crap. Has anyone read the actual text of the bill? They are missing the teeny, tiny detail of how the system will be paid for! The bill only does two things:

*Enable DPS to do anything to build the system once it is funded (duh - do they need legislation to tell them that?).
*Enable DPS to get property to build infrastructure for the system.

So.....we put out this wonderful press release to say that "“Oklahoma communities and families deserve the safety this statewide communications system will bring" when all the bill does is allow DPS to purchase property for radio infrastructure? Put some teeth into it - authorize funding for the system and outline where it will come from. This is worthless legislation.

--------------Text of Bill--------------
