is it normal for state DNR freqs to be "quiet" I built a whole bank of DNR freqs as well as USFS stuff today and have not heard a single peep. I know it's winter and all but shouldn't there be some kind of radio chit chat??
I hardly hear anything on DNR freqs unless there is an active fire nearby. They might do pager tests and that kind of stuff periodically, but the freqs are quiet more often than not in my experience.
I hear them fairly frequently, usually the Belfair frequency. At least here in the Bonney Lake area it is the loudest. 159.255
and 159.2325 Enumclaw which is pretty faint, but understandable.
The DNR is mostly active from June to Ocotber when the fire season comes in play. Then you will hear tone outs for engines, crews, dozers and other fire units. DNR is a big fire agency during your fire months .
As I understand it, the DNR cops that work out of Ellensburg (where I am currently) conduct their records checks with WSP, so you wouldn't hear that traffic.
And most of their calls are self generated anyway.
It is somewhat active down in SW Washington as well, more so around hunting/fishing seasons. I can hear State Clark-DPL156 and State Gorge-DPL? mostly.
As for the DNR Area repeaters they are always busy down here, lots of timber sales, tree planting, road work, etc this time of year and of course lots of fire traffic in the summer/fall. DNR Common is always busy as well.
